With reference to the seal shown below(which also happens to be the cover page of this book), one upanishada refers that this universe is a joint form of perishable and nonperishable, manifest and nonmanifest, and  this is supported by the supreme divine soul.  The knowableand the unknown, non - divine and the divine are two he - goats  and thirdly, there is a goat which is associated with one who enjoys pleasure. When these three combine, only then manifestation take place. These two he - goats can also be called as two eagles. And there is a superior element which is beyond these three who, though he is the cause of all the world, but still he is beyond all this. This is the non - acting, infinite soul which is also called Dhruva( firm) he - goat. This seems to have been called the first letter a of Indus script.  It's super power is that goat which is said to be associated with one who enjoys and whatever is enjoyable.

The two joint heads in the seal can be equated with the knowable and unknown of the upanishada. As these two he - goats  are two forms of that firm he - goat, therefore, it is appropriate that these are attached with one horn. And the root of this tree is the same staff - type letter a. There is a triangle shape above this staff. And above this triangle, there is a circular shape( symbolic of letter a at gross level). The three arms of the triangle can be compared with three traits of goats stated in sacred texts(red, white and dark). The triangular leaves of the tree are the progeny of this goat. This goat is compared with threefold(Sat, raj, tam) nature of Samkhya philosophy and the progeny of this goat is also threefold. The same symbolism may be applied to those Indus seals where a triangular shape is used as a seat. And the base of this triangle is the staff, the consciousness.

There is a seal(MEH.,XCIII, 307) which depicts 11 leaves on an inverted U type peepal tree. Inside U, there is a figure of a man on whose head 3 staff - like a letters are situated like a trident, and also touching the peepal tree. The inscription on this seal mentions 3 U's, anna/food and Yajna. The three Us may be symbolic of persons at voice level, mind level and life level, or of lights of Fire, Air/Sun and Indra, which have been depicted in the form of three staff - like a's on the head of a person.11 leaves may be symbolic of 7 cereals and four wealths mentioned in upanishads. The U- type covering of peepal tree? -- - - . The explanation for mention of Yajna in the inscription is that the inner soul is accepting these oblations in the form of totality of food and wealth through the above three lights. And the acceptor of the oblations, the inner soul, will be called the ana, which forms the root for praana, apaana, vyaana, udaana, samaana etc. All these are modifications of the same consciousness.

Thus this peepal tree is a joint symbol of Ana/Anaada and Anaa, the eater and the eatable. This can easily be compared with the cover page seal which also has 11 leaves. Above the triangle(representing goat, threefold nature) there are two common - neck one - horned heads which form the shape of a bow. Each of these heads represents letter a, and, alongwith horns, the shape forms two J's. If the staff( with arrow) is considered as representing letter a, then this forms word aja at two places. The other type of combination can be used to form word Ashwin from this figure. - - - - -
